3 couple 40 bar Reel in a 4-couple set
Careful! The progression may not be what you would expect, but it works!

| 1 - 4 | 1st couple set and cast off to 2nd place. 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4. |
| 5 - 8 | 1st and 3rd couples dance left (!) hands across. |
| 9 - 16 | 2nd, 1st and 3rd men, joining hands advance two steps and retire two steps twice, while 2nd, 1st and 3rd ladies set for two bars then, joining hands, advance two steps and retire two steps on bars 11-14 and set for two bars. |
| 17 - 24 | 1st couple dance full figures of eight on their own sides around 2nd and 3rd couple: They start with turning quickly 3/4 by the left (!), then 1st lady going down between 3rd couple, 1st man up between 2nd couple, on bar 21 a quick 3/4 turn by the right then 1st lady going up between 2nd couple and 1st man down between 3rd couple (ending up in sidelines on own sides). |
| 25 - 28 | 2nd, 1st and 3rd couple turn partner with left (!) hand half-way round, retaining hold of hands with ladies facing down and men facing up, all three couples set. |
| 29 - 32 | After the setting, 3rd lady and 2nd man lead their lines in an anti-clockwise direction back to their own side lines in the order 312. |
| 33 - 40 | First couple set twice towards each other and spin for four bars, ready to start again from new positions |
