Hello and welcome to the web-site of the Berne Scottish Country Dance Club.

As is usual, the useful information on this site is visible from a bunch of separate pages. The links in the frame on the left hand side should be self explanatory, however, should this not in fact be the case, here follows some more verbose descriptions.

General

The Berne SCDC was founded in 1989 in order that a group of ex-Pats (mostly Scottish) plus a few Swiss who were fans of Scotland could get together and have some fun in a distinctively Scottish fashion.

The kind of dancing we do is set dancing (usually 4 couples in a single set) - not to be confused with Highland dance, which is the energetic solo stuff. We do try to get the dance technique "right". However this is not the main aim. The main aim is to have fun.

Where when and what.

Our dancing evening is Thursday. We meet in the hall of St. Ursula's Church . We generally dance on the first and third Thursdays of the month, however things like holidays and special events do cause us to miss some. You will find here the definitive list of dancing dates and the evening's timetable.

The dances we do are fixed choreographies. Some of these are over 200 years old, some have been devised this year. In fact, we have even gone so far as to devise some dances ourselves .

Events.

Apart from the normal dancing evenings, we usually organise the following special events:
